James Gosling's opinion should not carry much weight given how Java has failed to meet expectations despite such a loyal community of developers. The platform continually runs first and best on Windows, their arch nemesis, while they do not even do much to assist with the Java runtime on the Mac which could be their best ally. It is also their lack of tools for JSF which has caused so many Java developers to jump ship to Ruby on Rails and other platforms which do provide a better way to build the application. They do not do it with visual tools as much as doing it with much less code. Gosling must still think someone who can write more code in a sitting will automatically create better applications. Fortunately there is now a significant number of developers within Sun who do understand the value of a visual tool which handles all of the syntactical details which do not add value to the application.
